Waiting.....not so patiently.....

As the grandfather clock chimes in, ding-dong, ding-dong.........we sigh tiredly.  It's 2 am and we're still awake.  Jolted out of a 'not so light sleep' with every sound the monitor makes.

We can  hear Naavah moaning as she chews her cud in the barn.  She still has two weeks to go, yet she is near to bursting with baby belly.

Davi cries softly, not happy with her injured hoof, nor with the wrappings that are keeping it clean until it heals.

We hear the rain on the monitor, sounding like yet another ice & sleet rain.  Mother nature refusing to release us to spring, so jealous is she of winter's season.  And yet we wait.....
Leyla.......today we hope, day 150 of her pregnancy and we wait.  Goat farmers we think, who would have thought that about us 15 years ago.  Yet here we are, expectant parents waiting not so patiently for our newest addition (or additions) to arrive.  We aren't the only ones restless tonight, though quiet for the most part, the girls constantly move about in the barn listening to the hiss and spit of the boys on the other side of the wall.

We've heard many things of others and their herds........many wondering why their does didn't settle, commenting on how many are late this year, while many of the chat is how they spend time sleeping in the barn or their endless bed checks through the night.  So we aren't the only ones waiting.........not so patiently.

There is no doubt our two chosen does are pregnant, as their  bellies expanded through the winter, now we see their tummies trailing low to the ground as the kid, or kids, move into position for birth.  We see the hollows developing on either side of Leyla's tail head, yet her ligaments were still within easy reach of our touch when last we checked.  A lot can happen in this, our sleepless night.

Just yesterday Koda & Akio waiting anxiously as well, tags wagging, anticipating the little chatter of kids.  Heads tilted to the side, ears erect, and eyes bright as they hear videos of last year's kid critters saying hello to this big new world.  So sure that their noses will soon inspect the bottoms of those, soon to be, newest additions.

Watch closely as our eyes droop, Leyla could make us wait longer.  We know this sleepless night could have ourselves dragging tomorrow if they decide not to come today, but we wait anyways......anticipation keeping us from closing our eyes just once. Every sound in the barn making us jump out of our bed dashing for clothes than sighing when we FINALLY figure out not yet. So we wait.............

Not so patiently..........
